Order of the Illuminati
67From Encyclopedia Britannica
There's astonishingly only a short mention of Illuminati in Encyclopaedia Britannica though they acknowledged its influence on secret societies:
"During the 1780s Masonic lodges had begun to replace scholarly academies and agrarian societies as loci of political discussion. In the 1790s more-radical secret societies emerged, modeled after the Illuminati (“Enlightened Ones”) founded in Bavaria by Adam Weishaupt, a professor of canon law, which promoted free thought and democratic political theories."
According to other sources like the Freemasonry Grand Lodge of British Columbia, the Order was created on May 1, 1776 as the "Order of Perfectibilists" which only became later the Order of Illuminati.
The Freemason Grand Lodge of British Columbia mentions documents published by Adam Weishaupt founder of the Illuminati

Illuminati is not a freemason order
The order of Illuminati is clearly not - at least officially or knowingly - a freemason order though its founder Adam Weishaupt did infiltrate the Freemasonry to recruit its members.
